A Limited Demo Joomla! 1.6 Site

Joomla! 1.6 is quickly approaching.  While no official timeline is available yet (just "when it's ready"), the general consesus is that a beta release will be available at the end of December 2009.  There will possibly be another beta after that, and the first stable version should be available around the end March 2010.  Until then, there's a lot of things that you should be aware and be prepared for.  If you haven't read our article "New features in Joomla 1.6".

To allow people to test out Joomla! 1.6, we created a free hosting account and setup the latest Joomla! 1.6. You can visit the site here:

Please note the following:

• The site functionality has been limited by the Custom Admin Access system plugin to prevent abuse. If you would like to have full control, follow the rest of the tutorial to setup your own test site.
• The following users have been setup for testing: adminonly, publisher, editor, author, registered.
• The password for each user is the same as the username.

If you want to create your own Joomla! 1.6 site, the rest of this tutorial will walk you through the same steps we went though and you will have your very own site to test.
