Joomla 1.5 Native

In early 2008, the Joomla team released Joomla 1.5.  This version was a groundbreaking overhaul of the core architecture of Joomla that offered many improvements in speed, scalabilty, and the overall development process. While Joomla 1.0 was heavily based upon the Mambo CMS, Joomla 1.5 implemented a new MVC (Model, View, Controller) framework.  These new API's allow for a much better development process and a more defined split between database functionality (Model), the output HTML for easier templating (View), and the glue that ties the two together (Controller).

Significance of the "Joomla 1.5 Native" Extension Attribute

A component marked as Joomla 1.5 Native was written specifically with the new Joomla 1.5 framework in mind and does not require the Joomla Legacy plugin to be enabled.  To learn more about the legacy plugin, read our Joomla 1.5 Legacy overview.
