Joomla 1.0On September 16th, 2005, the original version of Joomla was launched. This version was based heavily off of Mambo 4.5.3 and had only modest improvements above the name change. Future versions, up until the final release of Joomla 1.0.15 heralded steady improvements in stabiliy, security, and general base feature improvements.
End of Life DateDuring the life-cycle of Joomla 1.0, the core-team began development of the next Joomla iteration, version 1.5. This version would ultimately be launched in January of 2008. Consquently, in November 2008, the Joomla core team announced the end-of-life date for the Joomla 1.0 branch as July 2009. At this point, no more patches for the initial Joomla revision would occur, regardless of severity. This was due to ever increasing development focus on the Joomla 1.6 branch from the core-team, and the need to minimize focus from 3 branches back down to 2. In reality though, the 1.0 branch had virtually ceased development as of February 21st, 2008 as this was the last release date for this branch.
CMS Market RecommendationWe at CMS Market agree and promote the recommendation of the Joomla core team to no longer use Joomla 1.0 for any new sites (this has been recommended for a while), and, where possible, to upgrade older sites to Joomla 1.5 (or the upcoming Joomla 1.6). The Joomla team will continue to make the core files for Joomla 1.0 available for a long time on JoomlaCode.org, but is intentionally no longer promoting the use or downloading of that branch.
CMS Market will continue to list and provide information about Joomla 1.0 extensions for as long as the market demands.
Significance of the "Joomla 1.0" Extension AttributeA component marked as Joomla 1.0 requires this version and will not function with any future versions of Joomla unless those versions are also specified as attributes. |
