Joomla CMSJoomla is a very flexible Content Management System which is widely considered to be the 'moderate' choice for most applications. Very much like Goldie Locks, it's not as complex as Drupal but it's more flexible in many ways to WordPress. Joomla can satisfy the needs of a wide variety of websites, but it does have it's pitfalls which, depending on your needs, may preclude it from being your CMS of choice.
Joomla ProsRegarding extension support and developer community, Joomla is equal to or better than it's peers. There are a huge number of developers creating both commercial and free extensions and the community is generally supportive of the overall project and helpful to new users of the system.
Joomla ConsUser Permissioning / Access Level ControlOne of the largest complaints about Joomla is the lack of user-granular permissions. While there are a selection of different user groups, in general, they are inflexible for a 'social' website where user A can do 'x', 'y', and z while user B can do 'w' and 'x', but not 'y' or 'z'.
Other Things to be Aware OfMonolithic Component DesignA component in Joomla usually is a one-size fits-all solution in that it has a lot of functionality that you may or may not require. Additionally, if it lacks in an area that you desire, extending it yourself or convincing the developer to do so can be an uphill battle. Alternative CMS's like Drupal are generally more fine-grained in their extensions. Each extension within Drupal generally has many building block extensions which can be installed to add larger functionality to extensions or the system as a whole. This, of course, has administration drawbacks, so it's, as always, a 'what works best for you' scenerio.
